You may have missed me. Perhaps you have not. Either way, I have returned from a long hiatus that took me all over this great land. From the plains of Michigan to the suburbs of Atlanta and even to the coral lowlands of Miami. And back to the dry air (but somehow rainy day) of southeast Ohio.
Today marks the beginning of a very busy few months, in which I will both me attending school full time and working part time. I’ll obviously try my best to keep up with the blog, but it may turn out to be too difficult a task at times.
In any case, there’s a lot going on in the world and I’ve missed keeping my loyal readership abreast of my opinion. Dave’s gotten sick of not being able to say “why don’t you blog about that?”.
Quick takes on the current state of things:
1) Roland Burris — WTF? I want to get inside that man’s head. He seems to be marring what was a pretty good reputation inside of Illinois. Calling yourself the Junior Senator from Illinois before you are sworn in (and have been appointed under a cloud of illegitimacy) and the Magic Man make you seem more than a little caaarazy. Who knows. Update: Publius agrees. Via Steve Benen.
2) Poor Sasha Obama. She’s all over the news for her pink Jansport backback and her blue Uglydoll. I worry that all of the kids she meets will just want to be her friend in order to get invited to a sleepover at the White House.
3) $300 billion in tax cuts. Sounds good, but, like David Shuster just said on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, most Americans will probably save it or pay off their credit cards instead of using their money to stimulate the economy. We certainly will. I’m not sure if that’s a sympton of the poor state of the economy as a whole or the stage of life we’re in — but it’s a worthy wider point.
4) If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and read the dispatches from the-Grover Norquist-hosted forum for the six men vying to be the next Chairman of the Republican National Committee. They are nothing short of hilarious.
That’s all for now. Good to be back.
