Mental Gymnastics

The convoluted reasoning so many conservative politicians and pundits have employed today to explain away Specter’s party-change is mind-boggling.

Andrew Sullivan quotes from several blogosphere reactions including Jay Nordlinger over at the Corner:

[Specter] begins with the nonsense about how the Republican party has moved too far to the right, blah, blah, blah. That’s not to be taken seriously. That’s just rationalization, and not very smart rationalization at that.

Hilariously, Jim DeMint thinks the American people are coming to the Republican Party in droves, because of its “tent of freedom.” This video of his interview with CNN’s Rick Sanchez is almost too ridiculous to be believed:

This coming on the heels of the Ohio State University study which found conservatives don’t realize that Stephen Colbert is joking.  It’s enough to think they’re all living under a rock.  Believe what you want to believe, but if you can’t see the light and recognize that you’re party is drifting from the mainstream…
